Managed communications

Open organisational messaging built around a dedicated Matrix environment.

Managed Matrix Messaging provides an organisation with its own Synapse homeserver, supported by suitable hosting, monitoring, maintenance, backup and technical administration.

Discuss your requirements

Open messaging

Organisational communication with greater technical control.

Matrix is an open communications protocol rather than a single messaging application. Users connect through compatible client applications to a homeserver responsible for their accounts, rooms and communication with the wider Matrix network.

We operate a dedicated Synapse homeserver for the organisation and define its identity, access, federation, maintenance and recovery arrangements before it enters production.

What we manage

The messaging service and its supporting environment.

01

Dedicated homeserver

A separately managed Synapse environment sized around the organisation, expected use and storage requirements.

02

Domain configuration

Matrix identity, DNS and delegation configured around an agreed organisational domain.

03

Updates and monitoring

Planned Synapse maintenance with monitoring of availability, resources and important service conditions.

04

User administration

Agreed account creation, access changes, account suspension and routine administrative support.

05

Backup coordination

Backup protection for the server configuration, database and managed media storage.

06

Client guidance

Assistance selecting and configuring suitable Matrix-compatible desktop and mobile applications.

Suitable uses

Communication built around organisational requirements.

The service design depends on who will communicate, the information involved and whether users need to collaborate beyond the organisation.

01

Internal team communication

Organised rooms and direct messaging for staff working across locations, devices and working arrangements.

02

Controlled organisational messaging

A dedicated environment with clearly defined ownership, administration and acceptable-use arrangements.

03

Open-platform requirements

An alternative for organisations that value open standards and wish to avoid dependence on one client application.

04

External collaboration

Optional communication with other Matrix environments where federation is appropriate and explicitly enabled.

Deployment decisions

Important choices are made before the server is created.

A managed Matrix environment requires:

  • An agreed permanent Matrix server name and organisational identity.
  • A suitable domain and the required DNS configuration.
  • Defined user-registration and account-approval arrangements.
  • A decision on whether federation with other servers is permitted.
  • Agreed client applications and supported user devices.
  • Documented retention, moderation and acceptable-use requirements.

Service responsibilities

Hosting, communication and encryption responsibilities remain clear.

Hosting and maintenance

We manage the agreed hosting environment, Synapse updates, monitoring, backup coordination and technical configuration.

Users and acceptable use

The client approves users and remains responsible for acceptable use, room ownership and internal communication policies.

Encryption and recovery

Encrypted-message access depends on client devices and encryption-key recovery. Server backup alone does not guarantee recovery of encryption keys.

Optional integrations

Single sign-on, federation, bridges, bots, voice services and bespoke integrations require separate assessment and scope.
